Celebrate the Life of a Loved One with an Alternative Funeral
The death of a loved one is an emotionally draining experience for many individuals. Most of us dwell on the loss of our loved ones rather than their life. Because of this fact, funerals are not celebrations, but rather sobering events. It is interesting to note that with the multitude of Christian faiths only a small few celebrate death as the beginning rather than the end. As society slowly begins to allow the topic of death into our daily conversations, alternative funerals have become increasingly popular.
The traditional funeral generally consist of, preparation of the body, a service and a viewing, maybe a sermon or speaking about the dearly departed and concludes with a gravesite the burial. Additionally, these are held at churches or funeral parlors. Sometimes these are conducted by individuals the departed has never met and these people are asked to talk about the departed.
More people are resisting this traditional burial method and moving to alternative funerals to provide a more personalized and less formal way to say goodbye. One idea that is taking hold is a different type of burial plot. These new burial plots are referred to as woodland burial grounds. Unlike traditional burial plots with concrete, stone or metal monuments lined up in pretty little rows, woodland burial grounds offer a natural setting with the headstones marked by trees. Many individuals selecting this type of burial are no longer going for the traditional service either. They are conducting the service at home or together at the site as a family unit. The tree is a beautiful symbol to remember their family member’s life with pride, dignity and love.
Another such alternative funeral is a Sea burial. Sea burials offer an alternative way to say goodbye and work to complete the natural cycle of life. By returning the body to the ocean are loved one's life does not end in a box, but rather by continuing the cycle of life. For some, especially those that loved the sea and the wonders of the ocean, this might be the ideal funeral.
In addition to alternative funerals more echo friendly products for the burial service are being developed. One such product is a eco-pod. Made from recycled material echo pods are similar in design and shape to a standard coffin. However, they are often the decorated in beautiful colors and naturally return to the environment and therefore complete the cycle of life.
Before stuffing your dearly departed in a standard coffin and providing them a standard funeral. Consider the alternatives. The end of the life of your loved one does not need to be a standard black tie affair. Ask yourself what kind of life, your dearly departed lived. Consider a funeral that is representative of the life your loved one lived and pursued. There are many options available and a standard funeral is not law. Choosing an alternative funeral may help ease some of the emotional stress associated with the death of a loved one by celebrating their life rather than their death
