Green Burial

Today, with more people becoming concerned with their impact on the environment, green burials may be an option you or your loved ones would like to consider.

What is green burial?

Green burial goes by various names: green burial, natural burial, woodland burial, eco-burial, meadow burial... they all have one thing in common, which is they seek to minimise the burial's impact on the environment - to leave a light footprint on the earth.

Why choose green burial?

It is a wonderful final resting place in a beautiful, natural place - a peaceful and safe place away from the hustle and bustle of daily life; just nature and tranquility.

Choosing a green burial for yourself or a loved one is an informed choice to make the minimum possible environmental impact on the earth.

Using an eco-coffin for a green burial, made from renewable, natural resources without plastics, metals and artificial man-made materials, means that everything that goes into the ground will biodegrade in the ground to return its goodness to the earth.

Ideally, clothes and shoes (if worn) should also be of natural fabrics (cotton, wool, leather, silk, hemp, etc.) so that these too will biodegrade naturally back into the earth.

Remind your funeral director not to embalm the body so that no toxic embalming chemicals, used by the process, are put into the ground from and pollute the groundwater. Prevent anything from polluting the site.
