Obituary Help Tips Announcement Write Obituary Online Obituaries
Often it is difficult to know or remember where an obituary announcement should be published. At a minimum, an obituary should be posted in the local paper of the city where the deceased person lived. In addition, there are several other places where an obituary would be posted:
- Local newspapers where the deceased person lived
- Local newspaper where the deceased person grew up (if family members still live in that area)
- Alumni magazine/paper (high school, college)
- Trade papers
- Any papers of associations, groups or clubs that the person was a member
In addition, online tributes/obituaries are becoming more common. These can be emailed out to friends and family or the link to the obituary can be provided. Online tributes/obituaries may be posted on:
- Bridge Beyond gives you the ability to post an Online Obituary on this site and share it with friends and family.
- Online local newspapers where the deceased person lived
- Online local newspaper where the deceased person grew up (if family members still live in that area)
- Online alumni magazine/paper (high school, college), e.g. classmates.com
- Online trade papers
- Online papers of associations, groups or clubs that the person was a member
Note that it might be more cost effective to post obituaries online than in paper. However, we would recommend at a minimum, an obituary should be posted in the local paper of the city where the deceased person lived.
